Abstract

A numerical framework for coupling arbitrary potential flow with fully nonlinear, two-phase and turbulent Computational Fluid Dynamics model is presented in this work. The model is implemented in arbitrary polyhedral Finite Volume method in OpenFOAM software. The present model relies on the Ghost Fluid Method for discretisation of jump conditions, yielding infinitesimally sharp density and pressure jumps across the free surface. Interface capturing is achieved with implicitly redistanced Level Set method, rendering additional redistancing steps unnecessary. The potential and viscous flow coupling is achieved via Spectral Wave Explicit Navier-Stoked Equations approach, where the solution is decomposed into incident potential flow solution and perturbation components. Wave reflection is prevented by using relaxation zones with implicit treatment. All methodologies are mathematically and reformulated to adhere to strongly conservative, polyhedral Finite Volume method.
The numerical model is validated and verified on four sets of test cases: free surface flow over a ramp, wave propagation, assessment of higher order forces on a vertical cylinder and seakeeping of a ship. The computational results compare well with analytical, other numerical and experimental results. A strong emphasis is given to numerous sensitivity studies addressing numerical uncertainties.Scientific contributions of this work is the reformulation of the above mention mehods for Finite Volume discretisation and their implementation in the same numerical framework.

Abstract (croatian)

U doktorskom je radu prikazano numeričko okruženje za spregu proizvoljnoga potencijalnoga strujanja s potpuno nelinearnim, dvofaznim i turbulentnim modelom računalne dinamike fluida. Model je implementiran u metodi kontrolnih volumena proizvoljnoga oblika u OpenFOAM programskom paketu. Model se zasniva na Ghost Fluid metodi za diskretizaciju skokovitih rubnih uvjeta, dajući inifinitezimalno skokovitu raspodjelu slobodne površine i tlaka na slobodnoj površini. Slobodna površina prati se implicitno reinicijaliziranom Level Set metodom, gdje nije potrebno provoditi dodatnu reinicijalizaciju. Sprega potencijalnoga i viskoznoga strujanja provedena je Spectral Wave Explicit Navier-Stoked Equations metodom, gdje se rješenje razlaže na potencijalno strujanje koje modelira nailazne valove i perturbacijsku komponentu. Refleksija valova spriječena je uporabom relaksacijskih zona s implicitnim tretmanom. Sve su metode matematički reformulirane zbog diskretizacije metodom kontrolnih volumena, koja je strogo konzervativna. Numerički je model validiran i verificiran pomoću četiriju skupova primjera: strujanje sa slobodnom površinom uz kosu stepenicu, propagacija vala, proračun sila višega reda na vertikalni cilindar te pomorstvenost broda. Rezultati simulacija dobro se slažu s analitičkim, numeričkim i eksperimentalnim rezultatima. Velika je važnost pridodana brojnim analizama osjetljivosti simulacija, što je omogućilo kvantifikaciju numeričkih neizvjesnosti. Znanstveni je doprinos doktorskoga rada u reformulaciji gore navedenih metoda u metodi kontrolnih volumena te njihova implementacija u isto numeričko okruženje.
