Abstract

Razvoj i testiranje implantata ključni su aspekti u biomehaničkom inženjerstvu, s ciljem poboljšanja kvalitete života pacijenata. Tradicionalne metode testiranja koje uključuju korištenje prirodnih kostiju suočavaju se s etičkim, logističkim i varijabilnim izazovima, što potiče potražnju za alternativama. Ovaj rad istražuje primjenu umjetnih kostiju kao inovativnog rješenja za testiranje biomehaničkih svojstava implantata. Kroz literaturni pregled, eksperimentalno istraživanje i studiju slučaja, analizirani su materijali, tehnologije proizvodnje i metode testiranja kako bi se utvrdila uspješnost umjetnih kostiju u simulaciji stvarnih uvjeta. Rezultati ukazuju na to da umjetne kosti pružaju visoku razinu reproduktivnosti, kontrolu nad varijablama i smanjenje etičkih zabrinutosti, čime se potvrđuje njihova vrijednost u predkliničkim ispitivanjima. Ovaj rad također identificira potencijalne prednosti u korištenju naprednih materijala i tehnologija poput 3D tiska, predstavljajući smjernice za budući razvoj. Zaključno, primjena umjetnih kostiju u testiranju implantata otvara nove perspektive u biomehaničkom inženjerstvu, potičući inovacije u dizajnu i evaluaciji implantata.

Abstract (english)

The development and testing of implants are key aspects in biomechanical engineering, with
the aim of improving the quality of life of patients. Traditional testing methods involving the
use of natural bone face ethical, logistical and variability challenges, fueling the demand for
alternatives. This paper investigates the application of artificial bones as an innovative solution
for testing the biomechanical properties of implants. Through a literature review, experimental
research and a case study, materials, production technologies and testing methods were
analyzed to determine the success of artificial bones in simulating real conditions. The results
indicate that artificial bones provide a high level of reproducibility, control over variables and
a reduction in ethical concerns, thus confirming their value in preclinical trials. This paper also
identifies potential advantages in the use of advanced materials and technologies such as 3D
printing, presenting directions for future development. In conclusion, the application of
artificial bones in implant testing opens new perspectives in biomechanical engineering,
encouraging innovation in implant design and evaluation.
