Abstract

Cilj ovog završnog rada je napraviti i testirati kompozitne materijale za svrhu tjelesne zaštite od fragmenata ili ostalih projektila visoke brzine i male mase. U teorijskom dijelu rada je objašnjeno što su kompoziti, koje vrste kompozita postoje, kakva svojstva mogu imati i koja su tražena svojstva za ovu namjenu, oblik i konfiguracija ojačala, odnos i kompatibilnost ojačala i polimerne matrice, te očekivana mehanička svojstva koja se pokušavaju ispuniti. Eksperimentalni dio obuhvaća ručni postupak izrade kompozita, balistička ispitivanja pomoću pneumatskog pištolja na zrna, ispitivanje žilavosti Charpy-evim batom, analizu
mikrostrukture prije i poslije balističkog ispitivanja te usporedbom dobivenih rezultata. Nakon usporedbe donesen je zaključak koji je korišteni kompozitni materijal pokazao najbolje karakteristike tokom ispitivanja i potencijalni načini za poboljšanje u realnoj
primjeni.

Abstract (english)

The aim of this undergraduate thesis is to create and test composite materials for the purpose
of body protection from fragments or high speed, low mass projectiles. In the theoretical part
of this study it is described what composite materials are, what types of composites exist,
what are their properties and what are the necessary properties for this undergraduate thesis,
the type and the configuration of reinforcement and their configurations and relation to the
matrix, the compatibility of the matrix and the reinforcement and expected mechanical
properties that are trying to be achieved. The experimental part of this study will describe the
process of making composite materials by hand, ballistic testing using a pneumatic powered
pellet air pistol, toughness testing using Charpy impact test, microstructure analysis of the
composite material before and after ballistic testing and the comparison of obtained results.
After the comparison a conclusion will be made which of the composite materials used
displayed the best characteristics during testing and potential ways to improve the material for
real world application.
