Abstract

U svrhu smanjenja negativnog utjecaja brodskog transporta na okoliš, sve se više istražuju alternativna goriva koja mogu smanjiti emisije štetnih plinova. Među njima, metanol i vodik ističu se kao potencijalne opcije zbog svojih različitih kemijskih i gorivih karakteristika. Ovaj rad analizira utjecaj primjene metanola i vodika u kombinaciji s dizelskim gorivom na emisijske karakteristike brodskog motora. Istraživanje je provedeno putem numeričkih simulacija u softverskom alatu AVL BOOST, pri... More čemu su ispitani različiti udjeli alternativnih goriva u smjesi. Prvo su analizirani osnovni parametri izgaranja i emisija pri radu motora na čisto dizelsko gorivo, a zatim su dobiveni rezultati uspoređeni s varijantama koje uključuju metanol i vodik. Posebna pažnja posvećena je emisijama dušikovih oksida (NOₓ) i ugljičnog dioksida (CO₂), budući da imaju ključnu ulogu u ocjeni ekološke prihvatljivosti goriva. Rezultati pokazuju da korištenje metanola u smjesi s dizelskim gorivom dovodi do smanjenja emisija NOₓ, ali uz povećanje emisija CO₂. S druge strane, primjena vodika rezultira smanjenjem emisija CO₂, ali uz istovremeni porast emisija NOₓ, što postavlja izazove u optimizaciji procesa izgaranja i kontrole emisija. Ove promjene u emisijama posljedica su različitih mehanizama sagorijevanja metanola i vodika te njihovog utjecaja na temperaturu i kemijski sastav izgaranja. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na to da metanol i vodik mogu igrati značajnu ulogu u smanjenju određenih štetnih emisija u brodskom sektoru, ali je za njihovu širu primjenu potrebno dodatno istraživanje. Posebno je važno razviti strategije za smanjenje emisija NOₓ kod vodika i optimizirati sustave sagorijevanja kako bi se iskoristile prednosti ovih alternativnih goriva u skladu s ekološkim regulativama. Abstract (english)

In order to reduce the environmental impact of maritime transport, alternative fuels that can lower harmful emissions are being increasingly explored. Among them, methanol and hydrogen stand out as potential options due to their distinct chemical and combustion characteristics. This study analyzes the impact of using methanol and hydrogen in combination with diesel fuel on the emission characteristics of a marine engine. The research was conducted through numerical simulations using the AVL... More BOOST software, where different proportions of alternative fuels in the mixture were examined. First, the fundamental combustion and emission parameters were analyzed for pure diesel fuel operation, and then the results were compared with variations that included methanol and hydrogen. Special attention was given to nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, as they play a key role in assessing the environmental acceptability of fuels. The results indicate that using methanol in a diesel blend leads to a reduction in NOₓ emissions but increases CO₂ emissions. On the other hand, the application of hydrogen results in lower CO₂ emissions but causes an increase in NOₓ emissions, posing challenges for optimizing the combustion process and emission control. These changes in emissions are a consequence of the different combustion mechanisms of methanol and hydrogen, as well as their influence on combustion temperature and chemical composition. The findings suggest that methanol and hydrogen could play a significant role in reducing certain harmful emissions in the maritime sector, but further research is necessary for their broader implementation. In particular, strategies need to be developed to reduce NOₓ emissions when using hydrogen and to optimize combustion systems to fully utilize the benefits of these alternative fuels while complying with environmental regulations.
