Abstract

Ljudska težnja za zdravijim i boljim životom te harmonijom s prirodom dovodi do novih mjera regulacija izbacivanja štetnih tvari u okoliš. Povećava se potreba za smanjenjem prisutnosti polutanata u dimnim plinovima izgorenog fosilnog goriva. Fokus ovog rada je na polutantu sumporovom dioksidu i povećavanju efektivnosti pročišćavanja dimnih plinova korištenjem scrubbera. To je vertikalna cijev na čijem dnu ulaze dimni plinovi, a odozgo se raspršuje sprej vode. Dan je prikaz modeliranja dinamike apsorpcije, prvo za jednu kapljicu, a zatim i za sprej vode korištenjem računalne dinamike fluida. Dinamika odsumporavanja ovisi o kemijskim reakcijama i o prijenosu mase, a u ovom radu je istražen i implementiran novi model za koeficijent prijenosa mase kapljevite faze. Rezultati su uspoređeni s postojećim modelom i eksperimentalnim podacima. Korištene su destilirana i morska voda, a istražen je utjecaj parametara, kao što su protok vode te veličina kapljica. Model je pokazao dobar trend praćenja povećavanja efikasnosti s protokom vode i smanjivanjem veličine kapljica.

Abstract (english)

The human tendency for a healthier and better life along with the harmony with nature leads to new regulation measures on disposal of harmful substances into the environment. The need for reducing the presence of pollutants in flue gases of burnt fossil fuels is increasing. The focus of this master's thesis is on the sulfur dioxide pollutant and the increase of effectivity of purification of the flue gases by using the scrubber. It is a vertical tube, where the flue gases enter through its bottom, and the water spray disperses from the top of the tube. Modelling of the absorption dynamics is presented, first for one drop only and then for the water spray as well, by using computational fluid dynamics. Desulfurisation dynamics depends on the chemical reactions and mass transfer, and this master's thesis explores and implements a new model for the liquid side mass transfer coefficient. The results are compared with the existing model through experimental data. Pure water and seawater were used and the impact of perimeters, such as water flow and size of droplets were explored. The model has shown a good trend of tracking the increase of efficiency with the water flow and reducing of the size of the droplets.
