Abstract

Medicinska svrdla korištena u ortopediji i traumatologiji podložna su intenzivnom trošenju oštrica uslijed različitih mehaničkih, kemijskih i toplinskih utjecaja koji se javljaju u postupku bušenja kosti i sterilizacije. Porastom istrošenosti svrdla povećava se trenje između alata i obrađivane kosti, što posljedično rezultira porastom sila i temperature u zoni bušenja. Porast sila rezanja može uzrokovati lom oštrice ili cijelog svrdla. Time nastaju mehanička oštećenja kosti, a otežano je i vađenje dijelova svrdla što može uzrokovati dodatnu traumu okolnog tkiva. S druge strane, porast temperature utječe na biokemijske procese u koštanom tkivu i može izazvati strukturna i funkcionalna oštećenja s ozbiljnim i ireverzibilnim posljedicama na biomehaničke karakteristike kosti u području zahvata. Stoga je u ovom istraživanju razvijen model trošenja medicinskog svrdla s mogućnošću kvalitetne kvantifikacije stupnja istrošenosti. Model je verificiran eksperimentalno prikupljenim podacima iz više različitih senzora, primjenom odgovarajućeg ispitnog postava. Rezultati ukazuju da se postavljeni model može koristiti primarno u procjeni istrošenosti svrdla, a posredno i u određivanju temperature bušenja i to u stvarnom vremenu za vrijeme obrade. Navedene karakteristike modela su od iznimnog značaja za razvoj novih, potpuno autonomnih i adaptivnih mehatroničkih sustava za medicinsko bušenje.

Abstract (english)

Medical drills used in orthopaedics and traumatology are prone to intensive wear due to different factors which occur during the bone drilling and the sterilization. Intensive wear increases the friction between the drill and the surrounding bone tissue, which results in higher cutting forces and increased temperature. Higher cutting forces may cause damage to the drill or its breakage. This, in turn, causes mechanical damage to the bone and other medical complications. In addition, the increased temperature may have a negative effect on the biochemical processes in the bone tissue and, thus, may cause structural and functional damage. Therefore, the goal of the proposed research was to develop a model for drill wear quantification. The model was experimentally verified by the data collected from multisensor based testbed setup. The results show that the model can be used for the estimation of drill wear parameters and also for the estimation of drilling temperature, which is of major importance for the development of new adaptive mechatronic systems for drilling in orthopaedics and traumatolgy.
