Abstract

Meshless methods are a new class of numerical methods that only use nodes not connected into elements for the spatial discretization. In these methods the definition of approximation function with high order of continuity is simple, and more accurate solutions can be achieved for the same number of nodes when compared to the finite element method (FEM). The research conducted in the frame of the doctoral thesis is related to the improvement of numerical modeling of heterogeneous materials using meshless methods. Herein, for deformation modeling the classical linear elastic and Aifantis gradient theory employing one microstructural parameter were utilized. In both formulations the solution of the problem using a mixed approach is analyzed. The governing equations are written in strong form, hence the system matrices are computed in a simple and straightforward manner. The efficiency of the meshless methods is presented using several numerical examples. Original scientific contribution: In the dissertation a new mixed meshless collocation method for the deformation modelling of heterogeneous materials based on classical linear elastic formulation of the boundary value problem is developed. Using the mixed meshless method, greater accuracy and numerical efficiency in describing deformation processes of heterogeneous materials can be achieved, in comparison to the existing numerical meshless methods and the finite element method. Two new meshless collocation formulations based on a gradient deformation theory, which do not require numerical integration, are developed.

Abstract (croatian)

Bezmrežne metode nova su skupina numeričkih metoda koje za diskretizaciju prostora koriste samo čvorove koji nisu spojeni u elemente. Kod tih se metoda definiranje aproksimacijskih funkcija visokoga stupnja kontinuiteta provodi jednostavno te se za isti broj čvorova u usporedbi sa široko korištenom metodom konačnih elemenata (MKE) mogu dobiti točnija rješenja. Istraživanja u okviru doktorskoga rada odnosila su se na poboljšanje numeričkoga modeliranja heterogenih materijala primjenom bezmrežnih metoda. Prilikom modeliranja deformiranja korištena je klasična linearno elastična i Aifantisova gradijentna teorija, koja za opisivanje ponašanja materijala koristi jedan mikrostrukturalni parametar. U objema formulacijama razmatrano je rješavanje problema primjenom mješovitoga pristupa. Jednadžbe sustava zadovoljene su u jakoj formi te je izračunavanje matrice sustava jednostavno i brzo. Učinkovitost bezmrežnih metoda prikazana je pomoću nekoliko numeričkih primjera. Izvorni je znanstveni doprinos doktorskoga rada u razvijenoj novoj mješovitoj bezmrežnoj kolokacijskoj metodi za modeliranje deformiranja heterogenih materijala temeljenoj na linearno-elastičnoj formulaciji problema rubnih vrijednosti. Primjenom mješovite bezmrežne metode postigla se veća točnost i numerička učinkovitost pri numeričkom procesu deformiranja heterogenih materijala u odnosu na postojeće numeričke postupke temeljene na bezmrežnim metodama, kao i na metodi konačnih elemenata. Razvijene su nove bezmrežne kolokacijske formulacije temeljene na gradijentnoj deformacijskoj teoriji kod kojih nije potrebna numerička integracija.
