Utjecaj fiziološke otopine na svojstva polimernih alignera u ortodonciji

Abstract

Polimerni aligneri se sve više koriste u postupcima korekcije položaja zubi u ortodonciji stoga je ključno njihovo istraživanje i daljnji razvitak. U usnoj šupljini, aligneri su izloženi slini, a ponekad napitcima i hrani. Uz pomoć dinamičko-mehaničke analize (DMA) ispitan je učinak fiziološke otopine na polimer na bazi poliuretana koji se primjenjuje za izradu alignera aditivnim postupcima. Uzorci su izrađeni aditivnim postupkom DLP (eng. Digital light processing). Ispitivanja su provedena na temperaturnom intervalu od sobne temperature do 88 °C gdje se pratio prijelaz iz staklastog u gumasto stanje, modul pohrane i faktor gubitka. Mjerenja su vršena u 5 faza: odmah po primitku u laboratoriji, nakon 3 mjeseca izlaganja sobnim uvjetima, nakon 5 dana izlaganja fiziološkoj otopini, nakon 10 dana izlaganja fiziološkoj otopini te nakon 3 dana sušenja materijala prethodno izloženog fiziološkoj otopini 5 dana. Utvrđeno je da starenje pri sobnim uvjetima u trajanju od 3 mjeseca nema značajan učinak na mehanička svojstva materijala dok je izlaganje fiziološkoj otopini rezultiralo padom modula pohrane, faktora gubitka te temperature staklišta. Iz toga proizlazi da otopina djeluje poput omekšavala. Promjene uslijed djelovanja otopine su reverzibilne te se blagi povrat svojstava uočava već nakon nekoliko sati na zraku, dok je nakon tri dana povrat gotovo potpun. Ispitivanjem materijala na upojnost fiziološke otopine, uočeno je zasićenje nakon trodnevnog namakanja.

Abstract (english)

Polymeric aligners have been increasingly employed in orthodontic procedures for correcting teeth alignment, so their research and further development is more and more important. In the oral cavity, aligners are exposed to saliva and from time to time to beverages and food. Applying dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), the impact of saline solution on a polyurethane-based polymer, utilized in aligner fabrication through additive manufacturing, has been tested. The samples have been produced using additive manufacturing method, particularly digital light processing (DLP). The tests have been conducted over a temperature range from the room temperature to 88 °C, monitoring the glass transition, storage modulus, and loss factor. Measurements have been performed in five stages: immediately upon receipt in the laboratory, after three months of exposure to room conditions, after five days of exposure to saline solution, after ten days of exposure to saline solution, and after three days of drying the material previously exposed to saline solution for five days. It has been determined that aging under room conditions for three months does not have an impact to the mechanical properties of the material, whereas exposure to saline solution resulted in a reduction in storage modulus, loss factor, and glass transition temperature. That suggests that the solution acts as a plasticizer. The changes induced by the solution have been found to be reversible, with a slight recovery of properties observed after a few hours in the air and almost complete recovery achieved after three days. By examining the material for the absorbency of saline, saturation has been observed after a three-day soaking.
