Abstract

U posljednjih nekoliko godina, primjetan je porast hackathon događaja s ciljem razvoja kreativnih i inovativnih inženjerskih rješenja. Hackathoni su vremenski ograničeni događaji na kojima manji timovi rješavaju stvarni industrijski problem. Ovaj rad analizira metode korištene u procesu razvoja i alate informacijske i komunikacijske tehnologije (ICT) u međunarodnom razvojnom projektu Prohackin' unutar kolegija EGPR 2022. Projekt se sastojao od tri faze unutar kojih su se održala 3 hackathona. Za istraživački dio rada intervjuirani su članovi timova s različitim ulogama (član tima, lider, coach) iz pet međunarodnih studentskih timova (ukupno 40 intervjua). Intervjui su bili vezani uz korištenje dizajn metoda i ICT alata tijekom tri razvojne faze: definiranje problema, koncipiranje i oblikovanje (razrada). Rezultati pokazuju da timovi koriste različite metode kroz tri pristupa: jednu metodu za zadatak, nekoliko metoda za zadatak ili prilagođene metode. Timovi su razmatrali nekoliko aspekata pri odlučivanju koju će metodu koristiti: mogućnost raspodjele posla, vrijeme potrebno za provedbu metode i prethodno iskustvo u korištenju metode. Rezultati o korištenju ICT alata sugeriraju da timovi uglavnom koriste kolaborativnu virtualnu bijelu ploču i oblikovanje pomoću računala (CAD). U tom kontekstu, alati koji omogućuju kontinuirano dijeljenje rada u tijeku (npr. alati temeljeni na oblaku) pokazuju veliki potencijal za hackathone. Konačno, rezultati pokazuju potencijal za integraciju različitih alata kako bi se omogućio jednostavan prijelaz između zadataka (npr. prijelaz s virtualne bijele ploče na CAD modeliranje).

Abstract (english)

In the last few years, there has been a noticeable increase in hackathon events aimed at developing creative and innovative engineering solutions. Hackathons are time-limited events where smaller teams solve a real industry problem. This paper analyzes the use of design methods and tools of information and communication technology (ICT) in the international engineering design Prohackin' within the EGPR 2022 course. The project consisted of three phases in which 3 hackathons were held. For the research part of the work, team members with different roles (team member, leader, coach) from five international student teams were interviewed (40 interviews in total). The interviews were related to the use of design methods and ICT tools during three development phases: problem definition, conceptual design and embodiment design). The results show that teams use different methods across three approaches: one method for a task, several methods for a task, or customized methods. The teams considered several aspects when deciding which method to use: the ability to distribute the work, the time required to implement the method, and previous experience in using the method. The results on the use of ICT tools suggest that teams mainly use collaborative virtual whiteboard and computer-aided design (CAD). In this context, tools that enable continuous sharing of work in progress (e.g. cloud-based tools) show great potential for hackathons. Finally, the results show the potential for the integration of different tools to enable easy transition between tasks (eg transition from collaborative whiteboard to CAD modeling).
