Abstract

Rad sadrži opis razvijenog algoritma za proračun potrošnje vode pri hlađenju podatkovnog centra. Pri tome je analiziran sustav hlađenja s mješalištem i adijabatskim hladnjakom kao ključnim dijelovima klimatizacijske jedinice. Izrađen je računalni algoritam u MATLAB-u koji je u mogućnosti provesti satnu dinamičku simulaciju hlađenja podatkovnog centra te potrošnje vode za hlađenje na bilo kojoj geografskoj lokaciji te za promjenjiva svojstva ovlaživača (definirana pomoću učinkovitosti i broja ciklusa koncentracije vode). Algoritam je testiran za Frankfurt, Istanbul, Madrid, Stockholm i Zagreb, kako bi se procijenio i usporedio utjecaj različitih klimatskih zona na rad klimatizacijske jedinice. Najveća potrošnja vode primijećena je u Istanbulu, dok je analizirana klimatizacijska jedinica najbolje optimirana za rad u Stockholmu. Rezultati za Madrid ukazuju da u slučaju smanjenih zahtjeva na zrak nema potrebe za uporabom adijabatskog hlađenja. Međutim, rezultati za Madrid i Zagreb za uvjete povećanih zahtjeva na zrak ukazuju na potrebu za ugradnjom rashladnika vode s direktnom ekspanzijom u svrhu optimizacije rada sustava. Algoritam je moguće nadograditi optimizacijom koda za brzinu izvođenja te izradom regulacijskih petlji za rad hladnjaka s direktnom ekspanzijom i postizanje optimalnih stanja vlažnog zraka.

Abstract (english)

The thesis contains the analysis of an algorithm for calculation of water consumption during
cooling of a data center. The analyzed data center is equipped with an air handling unit that
contains, among other components, a humidifier and an air mixing box. The algorithm has been
written in MATLAB and it enables a dynamic hourly simulation of data center cooling and the
corresponding water consumption. This has been implemented for any geographic location and
for a variety of humidifier properties (defined by efficiency and cycles of concentration). The
algorithm has been tested for Frankfurt, Istanbul, Madrid, Stockholm and Zagreb, to evaluate
and compare the effect of different climate zones on the air handling unit operation. The highest
water consumption has been observed in Istanbul, while the analyzed air handling unit seems
to be most optimized for the operation in Stockholm. It has also been noticed that for the cases
of lower air quality requirements, there is no need for the adiabatic cooling in Madrid. On the
other hand, the results for higher air quality requirements in Zagreb and Madrid suggest that
there is a need for installation of a direct expansion chiller into the air handling unit, in order to
achieve the optimal operation. Computational time of the algorithm could be further optimized
by utilizing a new solving algorithm. Moreover, the regulation sequences for chiller operation
and the optimization of air conditions could also be added in the future.
